PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Ensuring the future viability of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area

Murrumbidgee Irrigation established the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area Renewal Alliance to carry out innovative infrastructure upgrades that would improve the existing irrigation delivery system, increase agricultural productivity, create water savings, and ultimately ensure the future viability of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area.

The first two major projects to be completed by the Alliance include the Hanwood Modernisation Project and Lake Wyangan Modernisation Project, which include the upgrades to existing lined sections of the Lake View Branch Canal (LVBC), gravity piping of southern area laterals, channel automation and associated works.

Abyss Construction completed:

  • Works associated with a diversion and non-contamination underpass of the canal and river
  • Installation of high-volume metered escapes and control structures
  • Excavation
  • Pipelaying
  • Installed formwork, steel reinforcement and poured concrete
  • Installed mechanical structures
