M6 Stage 1 Motorway

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

M6: Tunnelling, Piling and Construction Work. FRP of Substation Building, in-situ Concrete slab construction within existing shafts (Supply & Exhaust), Blockwork in Substation building and shafts

The M6 Motorway (previously F6 Extension) program of works is a proposed multi-lane road link that aims to give better connections to Sydney’s South. It will be delivered in 3 stages. Stage One comprises continuous twin tunnels connecting the New M5 at Arncliffe to President Avenue at Kogarah. Key components include:
• North- and South-bound tunnels around 4 km in length
• A tunnel portal at Brighton-Le-Sands connecting to entry and exit ramps at a widened President Avenue
• Stub tunnels for the proposed connection to a future Southern stage of the M6 extension
• Upgrade of the President Avenue and Princes Highway intersection
• Secondary infrastructure and operational facilities
• Pedestrian and cycle pathways.

Abyss Construction completed:

FRP of Site enabling works and structures for the facilitation of tunnelling, piling and Construction works:

  • Temporary Concrete Haul Roads
  • Reinforcement Splicing Slabs
  • Wheel Wash Bays
  • Material Storage bays
  • Reinforcement Splicing slabs
  • Equipment slabs

Substation Building:

  • Basement, ground and roof slabs constructed in 5 month duration
  • 50 x 20m substation footprint with 140lm of basement walls cast full perimeter of building
  • Suspended slabs with thickening beams formed with conventional Acrow System and falsework
  • Columns and blockwork installed between basement and roof levels

Supply Shaft Works:

  • Working scaffold cantilevered and launched across open shaft void (Above Scaffold at B05 level)
  • Installed intricate layer of temporary works decks to support future falsework
  • B03, B02 and B01 FRP levels constructed to support 500mm slabs (150 tonnes of falsework used to support levels)
  • B04 500mm slab supported using hanging support system from previously cast slabs
  • 600m2 of 290 Core Filled Series Blockwork Installed to B01 and B04 levels

Exhaust Shaft Works:

  • Detailed and meticulous planning of materials and access to provide working areas above existing ground penetrations
  • 350 tonnes of falsework installed to shafts and craned in and out of levels
  • 920m3 of concrete placed within levels with bespoke voids and penetrations placed at levels
  • 1100m2 of 290 Core Filled Series Blockwork Installed to B01 and B04 levels
